Implant Dental Treatment Stages

What Are The Stages Of Dental Implant Treatment?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are similar in structure to natural teeth and are used in the treatment of patients with missing teeth. Implant dental treatment offers a significant solution in terms of aesthetics and functionality for many patients experiencing tooth loss.

The implant treatment method is based on the placement of a dental implant on the jawbone and the attachment of a porcelain dental prosthesis on top of it. So, what is an implant tooth? And in which stages does Dental Implant Treatment take place? Here are all the details you are curious about.

What is an Implanted Tooth?

An implanted tooth can be defined as an artificial tooth root placed in the area of a lost tooth. Implant dental treatment is a method performed using dental implants, which are artificial tooth roots placed to replace missing teeth.

Implants, usually made of biocompatible materials such as titanium, are surgically placed in the jawbone. During this process, the implants integrate with the jawbone like natural tooth roots, creating a strong foundation. After the implants are placed, dental prostheses (porcelain veneers or crowns) are attached to them to achieve an aesthetic and functional tooth appearance.

Stages of Implant Dental Treatment

Implant dental treatment generally consists of the following stages. These stages are successfully completed through collaboration between the patient and the implant dental specialist. Here are the basic stages of implant dental treatment:

Evaluation and Planning: The first stage is to have a consultation with a dentist or dental implant specialist for implant dental treatment. In this stage, the patient’s oral and dental structures are examined using imaging techniques such as panoramic X-rays and computerized tomography (CT) scans.

After this examination, the suitability of the area where the implants will be placed, the bone density, and overall oral health are evaluated, and a treatment plan is created. The treatment plan includes details such as the number of implants, their location, and the treatment process.

Implant Placement: The second stage is the placement of implants into the jawbone. This procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia. The gum is opened, and the implants are placed in suitable positions. Implants are usually made of titanium and are surgically fixed to the jawbone using screws or other techniques. After the procedure, the implants enter a healing process for several months to integrate with the jawbone.

Healing Period: After the implants are placed, a waiting period is required for them to integrate with the jawbone. This period is important for the implants to securely bond with the bone and typically ranges from 3 to 6 months. During this time, temporary dental prostheses or temporary bridges can be used.

Prosthesis Application: After the implants have healed, prostheses or artificial teeth are placed on top of them. This is achieved by attaching specially designed crowns or bridges onto the implants. The prostheses are permanent teeth that resemble and function like natural teeth. The suitability of the prostheses, such as tooth color and shape, is determined based on the patient’s preferences and oral structure.

Follow-up and Care: After the completion of implant dental treatment, it is important to attend regular check-ups and maintain good oral hygiene. Visiting for follow-up appointments as determined by your dentist and practicing regular tooth brushing, flossing, and dental cleaning are crucial for the longevity of your implants.

Esnan General Anesthesia and Sedation Applications

In dentistry, “general anesthesia, which involves complete loss of consciousness, and sedation, which involves calming the patient while they are conscious,” have been used for many years. Almost all procedures that are typically done under local anesthesia can be performed also under general anesthesia or sedation. However, for these methods to be conducted in a hospital environment, the institution must have suitable conditions.

Esnan Dental Health and Oral Care Center is able to provide services to patients using general anesthesia and sedation due to its inclusion of a specialist general anesthesia doctor, anesthesia technician, and health nurse within its structure.

Advantages of General Anesthesia and Sedation

General anesthesia and sedation can address the condition known as “Dental phobia” , “Dentophobia” or ” Fear of Dentists” which often leads dental patients to postpone necessary treatments. Not only for this condition, but it can also be a suitable method for patient groups who have difficulty adapting and cooperating, such as children, individuals with autism, and Alzheimer’s patients.

Patients who are eligible for general anesthesia or sedation based on their health condition can receive this service in the general anesthesia operating rooms at Esnan Dental Health and Oral Care Centers after undergoing the necessary examinations.
